You really think so? About the "blood on their hands" I mean.
I respectfully disagree. Strongly, as a matter of fact. I know many, McCain being one, have said that this non-binding resolution will both demoralize our military and embolden the enemy. Others, including Chuck Hagel, also a Republican Nam Vet, have said phooey.
With respect to our military, I can't imagine they give a good rip what a bunch of suits in D.C. are up to. They're looking out for their brothers and sisters in arms, first and foremost and I highly doub that much thought is given to whether the junior Senator from Vermont is down with the cause. No, I've never been in the military, but from talking to folks who are or have been, they seem to be pretty dismissive of politicians. They want to be able to do their job, and nothing in this vote prevents that. Furthremore, I think it's ludicrous that this vote somehow lets the troops know that the war is unpopular - AS IF THAT HASN'T BEEN PATENTLY OBVIOUS FOR AWHILE NOW!! They're not stupid, if they watch the news, read papers, they're fully aware of the disillusionment back home. And they've done just fine, thank you very much. This vote isn't some great revelation to them [I hope].
With respect to the enemy...aren't they already emboldened? Weren't they emboldened immediately after 9/11 when the whole country was behind whatever the Administration would have chosen to do? Even assuming, arguendo, that this DOES embolden them...should the Congress repress their feelings and refrain from voting their conscious or speaking their mind out of FEAR of emboldening the enemy?
I respect your passion, as I do that of the folks who voted for this resolution. The bottom line is that everyone wants the same thing here: no more Americans dead.
Yes, I do really think so. These are just a bunch of political hacks interested in re-election as opposed to standing up for what is right.
The Democrats so badly want to lose this conflict. It's sickening. It's all about politics. They are doing everything in their power to turn this into another Vietnam while pointing fingers at President Bush.
Hillary Clinton has the audacity to crticize the administration over lack of body-armour, etc while it was her husband's adminstration that stripped the military of vital funding.
I loathe Democrats and everything they stand for. The opportunistic Republican jerks who sided with them on this resolution are con men who should be run out of office.
