Table Manners

Friday evening, I was blindsided by sheer intolerance and the complete lack of respect for the dinner table and it's guests by one of those sitting at the table. Debate is something I always welcome, but not over dinner. The dinner table is where we eat, drink, and be merry.

The next time you consider provoking an argument and offending everyone around you, please try and wait until after dessert.

I cannot begin to imagine how uncomfortable that evening was. Ok. Maybe a little. Eventhough I am a Christian and would have pulled out all of the stops in the past to let people know exactly where I stand on any issue that I thought that I had all of the answers to, I am currently realizing that type of behavior is EXACTLY what Jesus was against. In everything that I have read, I never find Jesus beating up on sinners. He was very gracious to them. He was the harshest on the self-righteous religious folk of the day. Of course, I have to be careful not to become self-righteous about the self-righteous.
